El Bizcocho Makes Way for $2.5M Renovation

Rancho Bernardo Inn is replacing its upscale El Bizcocho restaurant as part of a $2.5 million renovation. A new restaurant called Avant is scheduled to open in early 2013.
A spokeswoman for the resort said El Bizcocho recently closed after 44 years of service. The new restaurant is being designed to pay homage to El Bizcocho’s culinary history, ambiance and offerings geared to wine aficionados.
The new eatery’s menu will emphasize cuisine featuring natural and locally harvested ingredients, with handcrafted cocktails, local craft beer and boutique wines from around the world. It will be overseen by Executive Chef Nicolas Bour, with food sourced from the inn’s on-property garden and local purveyors.
The restaurant and bar will have 139 seats, with additional seating in two private dining rooms. The 6,500-square-foot restaurant will have new social spaces and golf course views, according to a statement.
The 287-room Rancho Bernardo Inn is operated by JC Resorts and located at 17550 Bernardo Oaks Drive in Rancho Bernardo.
