El Bizcocho, Rancho Bernardo Inn’s highly regarded signature restaurant, celebrates the history of its iconic space and culinary traditions with ‘El Bizcocho’s Epilogue,’ a farewell dinner on June 7 announcing the closing of its doors this summer. The 5-course dinner will feature executive chefs, both past and present, and pay homage to the legendary restaurant which will undergo a $2 million renovation later this year.

Rancho Bernardo Inn Executive Chef Nicolas Bour welcomes back two of El Bizcocho’s star former executive chefs, Gavin Kaysen of Café Boulud, New York, and Tom Dowling of JC Resorts, for a special alumni menu and an evening of shared stories. The evening will include a canapé reception at 6 pm where friends will share the history that is El Bizcocho, and a 7:15pm 5-course dinner.

The epicurean trio will alternate courses, each served with exceptional wines. The dinner will be priced at $225 or $275 with wine pairings included. Proceeds from the dinner will go to Olivewood Gardens and Learning Center, a local organization whose mission is to connect and motivate students and families from diverse backgrounds through organic gardening, environmental stewardship and nutrition education.

Friends and guests who may not be able to attend the dinner will be able to enjoy dishes from the ‘El Bizcocho’s Epilogue’ menu as well as past signature dishes through summer before the restaurant closes its doors in August 2012.

The space will re-open in late 2012 as a new signature restaurant, after a $2 million renovation. The space and concept will pay respect to the culinary history, illustrious oenophile roots and legendary ambiance of the original space, still elegantly slipping into the venue’s California Spanish Mission architecture.

Space is extremely limited; Reservations can be made through El Bizcocho directly by calling (858) 675-8550.
